French Media Spotlights Albanian Riviera and Alps as Rising Global Travel Destinations

French magazine Quartz says Albania’s Riviera and Alps combine stunning landscapes, authentic experiences and affordable travel before mass tourism takes hold.

Tirana, June 15 (Albania Journal) – Albania has been listed by French magazine Quartz among the world’s most promising travel destinations, with tourism experts recommending visitors experience the country before it faces the pressures of mass tourism.

According to the publication, Albania has attracted growing international attention in recent years thanks to its combination of pristine Adriatic and Ionian coastlines, dramatic mountain landscapes, and more affordable prices compared with many other Mediterranean hotspots.

The article highlights the Albanian Riviera, noting that its beaches rival those of Italy’s famed Amalfi Coast while avoiding the overcrowding that now defines many of Europe’s best-known seaside destinations.

Stretching from Saranda to the Greek border, the Riviera offers crystal-clear waters, sandy and pebble beaches, and picturesque villages perched along rugged cliffs, creating a unique blend of natural beauty and authentic local charm.

The magazine also points to the country’s mountain tourism potential, singling out Theth and the Albanian Alps as standout destinations. It says the region’s hiking trails and traditional stone architecture offer an experience comparable to some of Europe’s most celebrated mountain ranges, but with far fewer visitors.

Albanian cuisine also receives special recognition. Fresh seafood, traditional raki, and dishes prepared with locally sourced ingredients are described as key elements of an authentic culinary experience that has largely preserved its local character.

Despite significant improvements in tourism infrastructure in recent years, the article notes that Albania has managed to retain its original atmosphere and renowned hospitality.

Albania joins a list of destinations recommended for travellers seeking authentic experiences before tourism numbers surge further. The list also includes Italy, Mexico, Montenegro, Laos, Bhutan, Slovenia, Canada, Greece, and Uganda.

Travel experts quoted by the magazine say these countries are at a stage of development where much of their authenticity remains intact, though that could gradually change as international tourism continues to grow in the years ahead.
