Tirana, June 12 (Albania Journal) – Saranda has been ranked the most affordable beach destination in Europe for the summer of 2026, according to travel publication Travel Off Path.
As the summer holiday season gets underway, some of Europe’s best-known tourist hotspots, including Italy’s Amalfi Coast and the Greek island of Santorini, continue to attract visitors from around the world. However, Travel Off Path says a memorable European beach holiday does not have to come with a hefty price tag.
The magazine has highlighted four coastal destinations that combine crystal-clear waters, lively atmospheres, rich cultural heritage and budget-friendly prices. Saranda tops the list, followed by Northern Cyprus, Varna in Bulgaria and Kalymnos in Greece.
According to the report, Saranda may no longer be the “hidden gem” it once was, as Albania’s coastline is attracting a growing number of international visitors and experiencing tourist numbers similar to those seen in popular destinations across Italy and Croatia. Even so, the city continues to offer excellent value for money.
Nearby Ksamil, one of the region’s best-known beaches, is praised for its white sands and turquoise waters, often compared to those of the Caribbean or the Maldives. A beach set, typically including one umbrella and two sun loungers, costs around $10 for the entire day.
In central Saranda, famous for its long seaside promenade and vibrant atmosphere, a sandwich costs about $5, while a three-course meal for two at a mid-range restaurant is priced between $40 and $55.
Accommodation also remains relatively affordable. Budget hotels and guesthouses offer rooms from around $20 per night, while apartments and more upscale beachfront properties average about $120 per night.
Another major attraction is Butrint National Park, home to the remains of an ancient Greco-Roman city with thousands of years of history. The archaeological complex includes several important monuments, among them a partially submerged amphitheatre. According to Travel Off Path, entry costs around $11, making it significantly cheaper than many comparable historical sites in the region.
The article also addresses safety, an issue that can concern first-time visitors to Albania. According to the publication, Albania is currently listed as a Level 2 destination under the travel advisory system of the U.S. Department of State, the same classification given to countries such as Italy and France.
In addition, Albania scores 83 out of 100 on the Traveler Safety Index, a rating that the publication says reflects a reassuring level of safety for international tourists.
